If the bank says no

If you don’t qualify for a traditional bank loan, here are some other options:

  • Small Business Administration: Provides many types of help, including the Guaranteed Loan Program for start-ups or service businesses, and the Prequalification Loan Program for women, veterans and minorities. For more information, go to www.sba.gov or call the Hartford office at 860-240-4700.

  • Connecticut Development Authority: Provides working capital, real estate financing, start-up or mezzanine financing, capital for equipment and machinery, incentives for redeveloping brownfields, and more. For more information, go to www.state.ct.us/cda/ or call 860-258-7832.

  • Community Economic Development Fund: Assists distressed neighborhoods by providing greater access to capital, technical assistance to small business, and support for community economic development.   • Department of Economic and Community Development: Offers several loan programs and other assistance to promote economic growth. For more information, go to www.state.ct.us/ecd or call 860-270-8000.
