An Economic Development Call to Action

Economic development means jobs, opportunities and a better quality of life for more people in Connecticut. That is why it should be the preeminent goal of state legislators and policy-makers.

But there is often criticism of Connecticut’s economic development efforts, both within the business community and beyond. To be successful, all areas of government must pull in the same direction.

For example:

  • Our job growth numbers are not helped by the fact that the legislature seriously considers anti-jobs bills every session.
  • Nor does it help when some agencies of state government are working to create and retain jobs while others adopt policies that discourage businesses from investing here.

We present this strategic framework as a plan for renewing Connecticut’s economic vitality. Local governments must also be pro-growth if we want to encourage more investment and job creation here.

Many details need to be filled in, but a commitment from policymakers to support the framework and take a new approach to economic development will ultimately provide the greatest benefit for all citizens of the state of Connecticut.
