ADA pact makes eating out easierPizza Hut’s largest franchise owner, which operates some 800 restaurants in 25 states, has agreed to make its premises more accessible to individuals with mobility and vision impairments. The agreement with the Department of Justice (DOJ) resolves charges that NPC International’s restaurant facilities were not in compliance with Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act, the provisions covering places of public accommodation. DOJ discovered the alleged violations during a compliance inspection that was prompted by complaints from Pizza Hut customers. The agreement spells out minimum, detailed accessibility criteria for all NPC-owned Pizza Hut properties and covers parking lots, entrances, seating areas, bathrooms, self-service counters, and other spaces. In addition to completing the access work, NPC must designate a compliance officer and train all personnel involved, including all store managers, in implementing the agreement.
