Plant Closings and Layoffs

A slowing economy may mean reducing the size of your workforce. Employers who are considering a layoff should be aware of the laws and practical issues.

Reductions in Force

WARN

If your company has 100 or more employees and you are closing a facility and/or laying off a significant number of people, you may be subject to the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN). Among other things, this law requires employers to provide 60-day advance notification of plant closings and mass layoffs.
