MOLDThe National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) has made available a set of training recommendations for protecting maintenance and remediation workers who deal with mold. The guidelines were developed because the number of workers exposed to mold is growing, says NIEHS, and there are no federal regulations or generally accepted professional guidance on appropriate training to protect these workers. They represent minimum training criteria and will be revised as understanding of mold issues increases. The guidelines are the product of two NIEHS sponsored workshops, each one attended by more than 60 environmental practitioners from government agencies, industrial hygiene firms, abatement contractors, trade associations, labor unions and universities.
