March 2004 — Vol. 82, No. 2 WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT CBIA wins $3 million grant for tech training
The U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration has awarded $3 million to CBIA to train 300 incumbent and unemployed workers in bioscience, biomedical and pharmaceutical manufacturing. CBIA will use the grant to help pay for bachelor’s and master’s degrees, professional certificates, laboratory research fellowships and some doctorate-level coursework for employers’ prospective and incumbent workers. The program will meet the training needs of Connecticut employers and their employees in Connecticut as well as in the companies’ facilities in California, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, Ohio and Virginia. Targeted participants include chemists, biochemists, research laboratory assistants/scientists, science majors at a number of Connecticut higher-education institutions, design engineers, and employees of pharmaceutical and biomedical manufacturing companies. Matching cash and in-kind contributions from business and educational
partners will total $3.9 million. For more information about this or other grant-funded training programs, send an e-mail to CBIA’s Judy Resnick or call her at 860-244-1900.
