June 2005 — Vol. 83, No. 5 CBIA ad urges state legislators to strengthen Connecticut’s economy
A CBIA advertisement on seven Connecticut radio stations from May 9 through May 22 urged state legislators to make it easier, not harder, for businesses to grow and create jobs. Here’s what the ad said: “Did you know that Connecticut businesses pay more than $4.7 billion a year in state and local taxes? That our state is the fifth most expensive to do business in? “It’s no wonder that we’re lagging the rest of the country in job creation. “But instead of making our state more competitive, too many lawmakers in Hartford are supporting bills that would make it even more difficult for Connecticut businesses to grow and create jobs. Facing a large projected budget deficit, they would still increase state spending by 9.4% and drive up our taxes. “They would impose expensive new employer mandates and increase the cost of employee health insurance. “Ask you state legislators to reject these anti-jobs proposals. “Urge them to work with their legislative leaders and Gov. Rell to control state spending, trim proposed tax increases, and pass legislation to strengthen our economy and create jobs! “A message from CBIA: the Connecticut Business & Industry Association.”
