What legislators should not do

Achieving competitive costs, dependable infrastructures and a skilled workforce will enable Connecticut to build a vibrant business climate that produces significant job growth. But creating that kind of environment will also require lawmakers to avoid counterproductive actions that help keep the state from achieving its potential. The association is urging them to:

  • Avoid legislative proposals that would cause serious doubts in the minds of employers about whether Connecticut is a place for them to invest and create jobs.
  • Refrain from taxing the benefit plans of employers who already provide their employees with good health care benefits, and start attacking the root causes of rising health care costs.
  • Stop saying that certain employers do not pay their “fair share” of taxes, and start addressing parts of our tax code that are disincentives to investment.
  • Reject efforts to repeal workers’ compensation and unemployment compensation reforms that have made these systems fairer and more efficient. Instead, look for ways to make workplace costs more competitive.
