CBIA can help you ...

Get employees involved in contacting legislators

For employees to be effective allies in urging legislators to improve Connecticut’s business climate, they need accurate, timely information about legislative issues. As a free member service, CBIA can help you get information out to your workforce in the following ways.

  1. The “Government Issues & Politics” area at cbia.com: CBIA’s Web site has information, testimony, news articles and CBIA reports, as well as links to General Assembly bills and bill status on business-related issues. Simply ask your employees to visit cbia.com/gov.

  2. “Take action” alerts for employees:

    • These are issue-specific messages written by CBIA, giving relevant details and encouraging employees to contact their legislators. We e-mail you the messages, which you can forward to employees.

    • The messages let employees access the legislative search, information and e-mail capability on CBIA’s Web site. Employees can do a legislator search by entering their own town or ZIP+four or the legislator’s name in order to find the legislator’s phone number, fax number and mail address, or to e-mail them right from the site.

    • For e-mails to legislators, we can ...
    – Pre-fill the message area with text written by CBIA or your company that senders cannot edit;
    – Pre-fill the message area, but allow senders to edit it; or
    – Let senders write their own messages.

    • CBIA will report to you the results of the “take action” effort, including the towns from which the messages were sent to legislators, which legislators received messages, the total number of employees who responded or legislators who were contacted, and the names of employees who responded (if desired).

  3. Pod casts: CBIA experts will record informal digital videos on various issues and make them available at www.cbia.com; the videos can also be e-mailed.

  4. Lunch & Learn sessions: CBIA can provide speakers who can talk about the issues to employees at your work site during lunch or at another convenient time.

  5. Meetings with legislators: CBIA will facilitate a meeting at your facility or at another area company’s for company employees and area legislators.

  6. Employee district distribution: CBIA can let you know which legislative districts your employees live in. CBIA will run the list of your employees’ addresses (you would not give us employee names) against a state district file and give you a report that includes district numbers and/or identification of individual employees’ districts.

To arrange for any of these services, e-mail Lisa McGuire, CBIA’s director of public affairs, or call her at 860-244-1109.
