National Science Foundation ATE Grant
ATE Teacher Leaders Complete Summer Externships 2005

" The opportunity that I had to carry out molecular research using state-of-the-art techniques was invaluable. In addition to devleoping the task-based curriculum related this externship, I am able to teach the biotechnology content of my course with a great depth of understanding."

Joanne Russell, Biology and Chemistry Professor

Manchester Community College

"My experience at Integrated Industrial systems where LabView software is used extensively for the production and testing of the company's final products has reinforced my understanding that virtual intrumentation must be introduced to students entering into the engineering technology workforce."

Gerald Gerard, Engineering Professor
Gateway Community College

The second group of teachers participating in the National Science Foundation ATE Professional Development program have completed summer externships for 2005. The program, which is finishing its third and final year, brings math, science and technology high school and community college educators into the workplace from one to two weeks so that the educators can experience current workplace practices and requirements. Following their summer work experience, the educators then design a work-based curriculum project which helps students connect what they are learning with real world practices.
