Engineering design made simple through 3-D engineering software

Building designs through engineering applications can be fun when you can actually see the design taking shape on your computer screen. In fact, many companies use engineering software to create the design of their products so they can see the end result.

Teachers who want to encourage students with strong math, science and technology skills to look at the engineering field, will be glad to know that 3-D software programs are being tailored to high school and college students. Through a collaboration with CBIA, PTC (Partnership for Innovative Learning) and the Connecticut State Department of Technology Education, more than 100 teachers throughout the state received free, two-day training on PTC’s Pro/DESKTOP 3D design software program.

PTC, a leading supplier of software used by such companies as Raytheon and NASA, provided the training and the free software. Participants in these training sessions received 300 sets of Pro/DESKTOP 3D design software and access to PTC’s Web site for project-based materials and curriculum.

To further goals of CBIA’s National Science Foundation ATE grant, additional trainings are planned in 2004. High school and community college technology teachers statewide (in addition to the current ATE leaders) are encouraged and welcomed to attend these trainings. Watch for further updates!

PTC also offers fee-based training year-round. For more information, go to http://www.ptc.com/for/education/schools/training.htm
