Preparing Students for the Future

Technical High School Students Learn about Graphics from CBIA Professionals

What are companies looking for when they want to hire a graphics specialist? Students from several Connecticut technical high schools learned about what qualities employers are looking for and what opportunities are available when they visited CBIA. Graphics Designer Sarah Coughlin and Media Relations Manager Nancy Andrews talked about their experiences in the field and answered student questions.

According to Dayl Walker, CBIA Education Foundation Program Manager, "The students seemed to have a good grasp of the skills and behaviors that employers are looking for. The CBIA presenters were very impressed with the students' behaviors and thoughtful questions."

Some of the entry level employability qualities the students named included:

  • Hard worker
  • Dedicated
  • Trustworthy
  • Good technical skills
  • Respectful
  • Motivated
  • Creative
  • Williness to work
  • Commitment
  • Good communication skills
  • Appearance

Nearly 100 graphic communication students from the following technical high schools attended the event: A.I Prince (Hartford); Bullard-Havens (Bridgeport); H.C. Wilcox (Meriden); E.C. Goodwin (New Britain); Eli Whitney (Hamden); Henry Abbott (Danbury); Norwich (Norwich).
