Preparing Students for the Future

Career Pathways is a series of teacher's guides and DVDs that help middle- and high-school students explore educational and professional opportunities in Connecticut. The series was developed to address the state's most pressing workforce needs, to encourage student interest in high-demand careers and to build a pipeline of educated, skilled workers necessary for a strong local economy. The first in the teacher's guide/DVD series is Career Pathways: Engineering.

 

Technical High School Students Discover that Graphics Can Be Fun!

Students from technical high schools throughout the state got a first hand glimpse of what it takes to be a graphics designer during a recent visit to CBIA, where they got to speak to public relations professionals. Employability skills as well as qualities that employers are looking for came up in the discussion. (Click here)


CBIA receives National Science Foundation Grant to support technical high school manufacturing programs

The Connecticut Business & Industry Association received an $884-thousand, three-year grant from the National Science Foundation to help prepare the state’s technical high school students for high-skill, high-wage careers in manufacturing. Called the "Pipeline from the technical high schools to the Connecticut Community Colleges' College of Technology," the grant also encourages technical high school students to prepare for manufacturing careers at Connecticut's Community Colleges. The grant supports the programs of the Regional Center for Next Generation Manufacturing.


After School Program Allows Students to Explore Advanced Manufacturing Technologies While Learning Employability Skills

Students from Cheney Tech and A.I. Prince Tech participated in a week-long program during their spring vacation, which brought them together with Manchester Community College students to work on advanced manufacturing projects. (Go to Engineering Challenge)


Freshmen Tech Students Learn About Manufacturing Careers

Students trying to decide what manufacturing shop to take at Cheney Tech and A.I. Prince Tech recently heard firsthand what manufacturing is really like from manufacturers during a CBIA Manufacturing Careers Presentation at Cheney Tech.

Danbury Math and Language Labs Increase Student Enrollment in Advanced Math Classes

Students who might not otherwise sign-up for difficult math classes are finding it's not so hard after all because of the help they're getting from all-day math and language labs at Danbury High School.

Connecticut State Scholars


The Connecticut State Scholars Initiative is a simple, low-cost, high-impact strategy to motivate students to complete high school courses that prepare them for college and careers.

     CBIA received a grant for two years to implement the Connecticut State Scholars Initiative. The pilot programs have been launched in middle and high schools and the vocational-technical systems in Danbury and New Haven . GO >>>
