Internships Wanted at CBIA Member Companies

Students Seek Internships at Hartford-Area Businesses

High school juniors and seniors at three Hartford academies—the Academy of Engineering and Green Technology, Pathways to Technology, and High School, Inc.—are seeking internships at companies in the Greater Hartford area. All eligible students have participated in team-building and skill-building pre-employment workshops and have been selected for internship placements based on their academic achievement and teachers’ recommendations.

CBIA is looking for member companies in the Greater Hartford area who would consider providing an internship placement for one of more of these exceptional students during the spring and/or summer of 2010. Internship arrangements are flexible, and CBIA’s Education Foundation is ready to assist with various aspects of the program, serving as a liaison between employer and school.

“Internships bring benefits not only to students, by introducing them to the world of work, but also to companies,” says Dayl Walker. “Young students bring positive energy and a fresh perspective to your workplace.“ Walker is a program manager for the Education Foundation. She points out that internships offer a chance to showcase your company and the valuable role it plays in your industry and community.

The ideal academy internship, says Walker, pays the current minimum wage of $8.25, offers opportunities to learn about various aspects of a business, and challenges students to think and solve problems. Internships also give students a chance to apply the technical and academic skills learned in the classroom  and help them make more informed career decisions. For many students, the internship is one of the most memorable and valuable components of their high school experience.

CBIA’s Education Foundation will help coordinate student internships for interested employers. For more information, please contact Ms. Walker at dayl.walker@cbia.com or 860-244-1935 before April 1, 2010.
