Manufacturers Advisory Council

Made up exclusively of members who are manufacturers, this council focuses on
improving the manufacturing business climate in our state and the recognition
of manufacturing’s importance to the state’s economic well-being.
Council members attend regional meetings with state legislators, and they are
often featured prominently in our publications and media campaigns.
Small Business Advisory Council

Our Small Business Advisory Council helps shape CBIA’s public policy agenda,
which is a list of recommendations for legislative and regulatory reforms. The
group’s advisory council also promotes the involvement of member companies
in the association’s public-affairs activities and provides input for our
products and services.
Human Resources Council

Our Human Resources Council meetings are attended by some of the top HR professionals
in the state. In addition to providing networking opportunities, the council’s
fast-paced breakfast meetings help council members keep up-to-date on current
trends, the most recent state and federal court decisions, and developing
legal issues affecting their day-to-day operations.
International Trade Council

CBIA’s International Trade Council works to raise awareness of the
importance of international trade for Connecticut. It acts as a strong advocate
on public policy issues that affect international trade, such as NAFTA, GATT
and MFN. The council also provides information and referrals on international
trade, as well as seminars on important international trade topics.
Labor & Employment Law Council

Consisting of attorneys and senior human resource managers specializing
in this area of business law, the group identifies and provides
input on legislative actions and court rulings affecting labor and
employment law. Members meet with legislators, provide input for
amicus briefs and often provide testimony at public hearings to
further CBIA’s agenda.
Legal Affairs Council

Our Legal Affairs Council challenges court and government administrative
rulings that could negatively affect the business community. It regularly
files amicus briefs supporting its positions. The council is composed of
general counsels from member companies with an interest in identifying federal
and state litigation that could have an impact on the state’s business
climate.

Environmental Policies Council

CBIA’s Environmental Policies Council (EPC) is Connecticut’s premier
membership organization for environmental issues. The council comprises members
who are interested in keeping up-to-date on the latest environmental compliance
requirements and in assisting CBIA in developing and advocating policy positions
on environmental issues. Members meet monthly, receive regular e-mail “alerts” on
regulatory and legislative activity, and can access information through the EPC
Web site. They may also participate on any of several task forces and work groups
focusing on legislative and environmental issues.
Government Affairs Council

Comprising public policy/government affairs professionals from some of our larger
member companies, this group helps the association in policy development and
provides a forum to discuss critical policy and political issues facing employers
in Connecticut.
Business
Law & Liability Council

Consisting of attorneys specializing in this area of business law,
this group identifies and provides input on legislative actions and
court
rulings affecting
business liability costs. Members meet with legislators, provide input
for amicus briefs and often provide testimony at public hearings to

CBIA’s
agenda.
Monday Morning Group

This is a group of government affairs experts and executives from businesses,
trade associations and chambers of commerce. They meet weekly (on Monday
mornings!) during the legislative session to review events at the Capitol,
plan strategy and build coalitions.
Safety and Health Roundtable

Connecticut’s best resource for managers with occupational safety and
health loss or control responsibility, the Safety and Health Roundtable holds
six information-packed meetings per year. Expert speakers on today’s
most pressing issues, regulatory and legislative updates, and networking
opportunities are just
some of the benefits offered by membership in this special-interest group.
Taxation & Finance Committee

This committee helps formulate our public policy positions on tax issues.
The committee is composed of tax experts within the membership representing
various industries, as well as tax practitioners. The committee generally
meets quarterly, although additional meetings may be scheduled during the
legislative
session to make recommendations concerning Connecticut’s tax policy.
Unemployment Compensation Council

Consisting of managers and other professionals responsible for their company’s
unemployment claims or taxes, this group identifies and provides input on
CBIA’s unemployment public policy initiatives, including our review
of court actions that can lead to CBIA’s involvement as an amicus party.
The group also monitors the activities of the state offices that are responsible
for administering or overseeing the state’s unemployment compensation
system. Council members often meet with regulators and legislators to improve
the unemployment compensation system.
Workers’ Compensation Council

Composed primarily of managers
and other professionals responsible for their company’s workers’ compensation
programs, this group identifies and provides input on CBIA’s workers’ compensation
public policy initiatives. This includes our review of court actions that
can lead to CBIA’s involvement as an amicus party. This group also
monitors the activities of the state offices that are responsible for administering
or overseeing the state’s workers’ compensation system. Council
members frequently meet with regulators and legislators to help improve the
workers’ compensation system.
