Business Law & Liability
A business climate that's healthy and creates jobs needs reasonable
standards governing the transaction of commerce. Connecticut's business
law should be as consistent as possible with federal laws, model
acts and guidelines found in other states.
CBIA recommends:
- Establish a balance that provides insurance consumers with the
necessary information so that they may make educated choices,
while also protecting the insurance market from measures that
would hinder its ability to be competitive.
- Set reasonable standards for when an offer of judgment can
be made.
- Establish a reasonable rate of interest for offers of judgment.
- Strengthen Connecticut's tort-reform laws and make them consistent
with federal practice by prohibiting the introduction of evidence
of product improvements as proof that design defects exist.
