CBIA’s 2007 Government Affairs Program:
Transportation and Energy Infrastructures
Transportation
Goal: Fully implement a comprehensive transportation plan based on the work of the Transportation Strategy Board (TSB) that will make Connecticut’s transportation system an economic development asset.
Recommendations:
- Working with the General Assembly, DOT and a broad range of stakeholders, the TSB should develop a comprehensive transportation implementation plan that includes priority system requirements, timeframes, budget requirements and potential funding sources.
- The TSB, DOT and other stakeholders should work with the General Assembly and the governor to adopt the implementation plan.
- Continue to work with the Bradley International Airport Board of Directors to improve the airport and maximize its potential economic impact on the region.
Energy
Goal: Create and maintain an energy infrastructure that will support the reliable generation and transmission of energy in Connecticut.
Recommendations:
- Encourage the further development of Connecticut’s electric generation capacity and transmission system; natural gas infrastructure; and alternative energy sources.
- Streamline the state’s siting process to speed approval of infrastructure improvements.
- Restrict use of Connecticut’s Conservation and Load Management Fund to its intended purposes.
