Connecticut has lost 63,400 jobs in the last year because of the recession.

Our state budget deficit has grown seemingly beyond control. It's time for state lawmakers to focus on promoting job growth, a smaller and more affordable state government, and policies that will help businesses drive our economy back on track.

Unfortunately, legislators this year considered many anti-business proposals that would only make matters worse, by:

• Increasing business taxes, cutting off credits hitting Connecticut's smaller employers especially hard
• Making it harder for employers to manage their own workplaces (paid sick leave mandate and proposal restricting communications with employees)
• Expanding state government into the private sector (through health care, energy, retirement plans)

These proposals will only lead to more job losses and a weaker Connecticut economy.

Only a pro-jobs, pro-growth strategy will help Connecticut survive the recession and thrive into a new era of prosperity.
