House Minority Leader to retire
(March 3, 2006) The longtime leader of the House Republican caucus, Bob Ward (R-Northford), has announced that he will not seek re-election this fall and will retire from the General Assembly. Ward was first elected to the House in 1984 and has served in several leadership positions, including House Minority Leader for the last 12 years. He has been involved in numerous pro-business, pro-jobs initiatives over the years, and was one of the leaders of the landmark workers’ compensation reform legislation of the early 1990s. He has said that the reform of the state's eminent domain laws and tax reductions are two of his key issues for this, his last session.
