Republican Russo wins election to 22nd State Senate seat

(March 12, 2008) Voters in Bridgeport, Trumbull and Monroe elected Republican Robert Russo to the State Senate in a special election on Tuesday, March 11, to replace former state Sen. Bill Finch (D-Bridgeport). Finch was elected Bridgeport mayor in November and resigned from the Senate earlier this year.

Russo is an attorney and Bridgeport GOP chairman. He defeated Democratic nominee Thomas Mulligan Jr., Bridgeport lawyer and former City Clerk and City Council member.

Russo's election changes the makeup of the State Senate to 13 Republicans and 23 Democrats.
