DOT transition committee created by revised proposal

(March 14, 2008) A plan to split the state Department of Transportation (DOT) into two separate agencies would first have to be studied, under revisions made by the legislature’s Transportation Committee.

The committee revised HB-5041 to instead create a “transition planning committee” that would “assist the Governor in efforts to reorganize the department. . .”
Under the bill, the transition planning committee would review eight specific topics — several of which were identified in the report of a special commission created last year to look at possible DOT reforms.

The group proposed under HB-5041 would be comprised of 22 members representing a wide variety of perspectives, including those of the business community as represented by CBIA.

HB-5041 requires the transition planning committee to begin meeting no later than Aug. 1 this year with final recommendations due to the governor and the General Assembly no later than Nov. 30, 2008.
