Positive transportation proposals

(April 28, 2008) Two proposals in the legislature could improve how Connecticut approaches, plans for and implements changes to its transportation infrastructure.

SB-46 implements one of the most important recommendations of the Governor’s Commission on Reforming the Department of Transportation (DOT) by creating the positions of chief operating officer and a director of strategic planning and evaluation within the DOT.

SB-285 is another recommendation of the reform commission and directs the DOT commissioner to identify the state’s most important programs and determine what resources will be needed to make sure they succeed.

CBIA is supporting both measures as ways to help transform Connecticut’s transportation infrastructure into one that can support a 21st century economy. With less than two weeks left in the session, legislators need to move these measures forward.
