SB-46, SB-285:
Improving state transportation planning

Status: Both are awaiting action in the Senate

(May 2, 2008) SB-46 and SB-285 include recommendations of the Governor's Commission on Reforming the Department of Transportation (DOT). SB-46 would create the positions of a DOT chief operating officer and a director of strategic planning and evaluation. SB-285 directs the DOT commissioner to identify the state's most important programs and determine what resources will be needed.

SB-46 and SB-285 are helpful because they:

Improve how Connecticut approaches, plans for and implements changes to its transportation infrastructure.

Help transform Connecticut's transportation infrastructure into one that can support a 21st century economy.

SB-46 and SB-285 are good for Connecticut’s economy. With Gov. Rell recently nominating a new DOT commissioner, it is critical that lawmakers follow through by enacting the key recommendations of the reform commission.
