Workgroup forming 'smart growth' proposals

(July 11, 2008) A workgroup headed by state Rep. Brendan Sharkey (D-Hamden) is working through the summer and fall to develop recommendations for “smart growth” legislation in 2009. The working group, formed earlier this year, has established four subcommittees: Economic Development, Land Use, Tax Policy and Regional Efficiency. The workgroup is examining studies and hearing from a variety of state agencies and organizations to gain perspective on the challenges to smart growth in Connecticut and the efforts being made to address those challenges.

This fall, the working group will begin considering proposals from the various subcommittees on actions the legislature might consider during the 2009 session.
For more information about the activities of the working group, contact Eric Brown at 860-244-1926 or visit the working group’s site at http://forums.cga.ct.gov/smartgrowth.
