New gubernatorial task forces have CBIA representation
(Aug. 1, 2007) New task forces charged by Gov. Rell to help create a "new" Department of Transportation (DOT) and review the health of Connecticut's hospitals include key representation from CBIA.
Meredith Reuben, CBIA chair and CEO of Eastern Bag and Paper Group in Milford, was named to the DOT panel that will examine and make recommendations concerning a redesign of the department, its mission, business practices and organizational structure.
The panel must report its findings to the governor by Dec. 1.
In addition, a new task force to examine the health of Connecticut's hospitals and develop strategies to stabilize them and chart their future includes CBIA President and CEO John Rathgeber.
Many hospitals in the state are facing financial difficulties and the challenges of attracting and retaining skilled medical staff. The task force will look at emergency room utilization, affordability and alternative delivery of primary care, as well as the ‘Certificate of Need’ process that determines where certain medical services are provided and when hospitals may close or expand.
This panel must report its findings to the governor by Dec. 31.
