DPS looks at private detective licensing for HR screening

(Dec. 12, 2007) The Connecticut Department of Public Safety (DPS) continues to consider legislation that could extend the state’s private detective licensing statute to corporate activities such as pre-employment screening, forensic accounting and computing and other similar activities.

While it is still not certain how the department’s proposal would affect how companies screen employment candidates, CBIA is concerned about any measure that would increase the cost of doing business and add administrative burdens for employers in the state.

CBIA has participated in discussions with the DPS about the issue and will continue to meet with the department until the issue is resolved.
