Labor committee approves state-mandated safety trainingThe (Connecticut) Labor Committee recently approved a measure that would mandate extensive safety awareness training for workers on certain public works projects. H.B. 6419 requires all contractors awarded a government contract for construction, remodeling or repair work on projects where the total cost is $100,000 or more to provide a 10 hour training course for all on site employees. The course must be conducted by an individual authorized by the federal OSHA's Outreach Training Program to serve as a construction industry outreach trainer. The course curriculum must be approved by OSHA, and documentation of successful course completion must be provided to the Connecticut Department of Labor. The measure has now been sent to the Government Administration and Elections Committee for further action.
