Regarding Dependent Eligibility

As of April 1, 2000, the limiting age for full-time student dependents changed on all CBIA/Aetna medical and dental plans from age 25 to 23. Full-time students affected by this change will be terminated on the first of the month following the dependent’s 23rd birthday. Please keep in mind this is an across the board continuous change for all current and future Aetna participants and their dependents.

Full-time student dependents impacted by this policy change, which are not disabled, will be eligible for Continuation-of-Coverage.

This change does not impact dependents over age 23 who have a mental or physical disability, and have been approved by Aetna to continue coverage. If you have a mentally or physically disabled dependent, you should send a completed Attending Physician’s Statement to Aetna for approval if you have not already done so. You may obtain an Attending Physician’s Statement form by contacting the Member Services number on your ID card. When coverage is approved, a copy of the approval letter must be sent to CBIA to reinstate coverage.
