Economists discuss how the economy will affect Connecticut businesses

 

Will there be a recession in 2008 or just slow growth? Top business leaders and economic experts will discuss economic and political trends, and how those trends will affect Connecticut businesses and the state's economy in 2008, at the annual Economic Summit & Outlook presented by the Connecticut Business & Industry Association and the MetroHartford Alliance.

The keynote speakers are:

  • Eric Rosengren, president and CEO, Federal Reserve Bank of Boston
  • Dr. P. Christopher Earley, dean, University of Connecticut School of Business
  • Nariman Behravesh, chief economist, Global Insight

A panel that includes legislative leaders will examine business issues that will be addressed in this year's legislative session of the state legislature. The panelists are:

  • House Speaker Jim Amann (D)
  • House Republican Leader Larry Cafero
  • Senate Republican Leader John McKinney
  • John Rathgeber, CBIA president and CEO
  • Oz Griebel, president and CEO of MetroHartford Alliance

In a separate address, Nick Perna, economic adviser to Webster Financial Corp., will discuss Connecticut's economic outlook for the year.

Executives from various sectors of the economy will lead panel discussions on a variety of topics, including:

  • Outlooks for the finance, insurance and real estate industries
  • Health care costs and innovations
  • International trade
  • Family business trends and challenges

The conference is sponsored by Webster Bank in cooperation with CBIA, the MetroHartford Alliance and the East of the River Chambers of Commerce Association (ERCCA).

 

CBIA is Connecticut's largest business organization, with 10,000 members.

MetroHartford Alliance is the region's chamber of commerce and economic development leader.

ERCCA consists of six chambers of commerce, East Hartford, Glastonbury, Greater Manchester, North Central Connecticut, South Windsor and Tolland, representing more than 3,000 businesses throughout the region .
