Businesses in Connecticut are facing numerous challenges, including a volatile national economy and high energy prices, which impede their ability to compete in today's highly competitive global marketplace. Despite these growing challenges, business executives are working harder and finding ways to remain productive and profitable.
Top business leaders and economic experts will discuss what needs to be done to help Connecticut businesses remain competitive and improve the state's economy at CBIA's conference “The Connecticut Economy,” held at the Rocky Hill Marriott on Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008.
The keynote speakers are Chad Townes, vice president and general manager, AT&T, and Andres Carbacho-Burgos, economist, Moody's Economy.com.
Townes will discuss the need for a competitive broadband infrastructure in order to achieve economic growth, productivity and profitability. Carbacho-Burgos will focus on the state of the economy, particularly as it affects Connecticut.
The conference will feature breakout sessions on infrastructure and labor issues, including how Connecticut will meet the need for a highly skilled workforce.
A news conference will be held at 9:30 a.m. to announce the results of the CBIA/Blum Shapiro 2008 Survey of Connecticut Businesses. This annual survey identifies trends and issues facing Connecticut businesses and can help state policymakers identify ways to improve the state's economic climate. Complete survey results will be distributed at the news conference.
The conference is sponsored by CBIA, the Hartford Area Business Economists (HABE), the University of Hartford, Blum Shapiro, Northeast Utilities System, TD Banknorth and AT&T.
The cost for the conference is $75 for CBIA and HABE members and $100 for nonmembers.
