UConn Quarterly Economic Review Will Be Released


Top business leaders and economists will gather to examine issues and challenges facing businesses in Fairfield County at the Connecticut Business & Industry Association’s Fairfield County Economic Conference:

Keynote speaker Lakshman Achuthan, managing director of Economic Cycle Research Institute (ECRI), will discuss the recession and recovery and their impact on Fairfield County’s economy.

A panel of key business leaders and economists will discuss economic development and growth potential for the region and how trends in Fairfield County affect the entire state. Speakers include Michael Freimuth, director, Office of Economic Development and Intergovernmental Affairs, City of Stamford; Jack Condlin, president and CEO, Stamford Chamber of Commerce; Thomas Santa, president and CEO, Santa Energy Corp.; and James Fagan, senior managing director, Cushman & Wakefield of Connecticut Inc.

The conference will also feature the fall release of The Connecticut Economy: A University of Connecticut Quarterly Review, presented by the publication’s editors, Steven Lanza, Dennis Heffley and Art Wright. The editors will preview some of the topics covered in the fall issue, including transportation and traffic congestion, and other key economic engines that drive the Fairfield County economy.

The free conference will cover issues related to transportation and commuter rails, state tax portfolios, regional prospects, Medicaid, and health care as well as the economic strengths and weaknesses of Fairfield County, and how the state can help businesses succeed in today’s highly competitive environment.

The event is sponsored by CBIA, RSM McGladrey, Optimum, the Stamford Chamber of Commerce, and the University of Connecticut.

There is no cost to attend this conference.
