Lauren Weisberg Kaufman

Lauren Weisberg Kaufman is vice president of the Connecticut Business & Industry Association (CBIA), the state’s largest business organization with more than 10,000 member companies. Weisberg Kaufman is responsible for the development of education and training policies for CBIA and serves as executive director of the CBIA Education Foundation.

The CBIA Education Foundation was founded in 1983 and is an affiliate of the Connecticut Business & Industry Association (CBIA). The Education Foundation’s mission is to help prepare a skilled workforce for Connecticut employers through the development of public-private sector partnerships in education and job training. The Education Foundation seeks grant opportunities and funds to develop programs that further CBIA’s public policy positions at the state and federal levels, and develop best practices for its members.

Weisberg Kaufman is responsible for issues related to education, job training and skilled workforce development. She is a member of the State Employment and Training Commission and chaired the State Council on Vocational-Technical Education.

In addition, Weisberg Kaufman served as a founding member of the state’s Mastery Testing Advisory Committee, the Strategic School Profile Committee, and the Institute of Effective Teaching, which developed the Alternate Route to Teaching credential.

Weisberg Kaufman is responsible for CBIA Education Foundation programs including the $3 million H-1B U.S. DOL grant for the pharmaceutical and bio-tech industries, the NSF-funded Advanced Technological Education and Next Generation Manufacturing Programs, Employer Services for the Capital Region One-Stop, State Scholars and school to career programs.

Prior to joining CBIA in 1983, Weisberg Kaufman was a senior associate at the National Institute of Education (NIE) in Washington, D.C. At NIE, she monitored the Institute for Research on Educational Finance and Governance at Stanford University and supervised the school finance work of the National Conference of State Legislatures. Weisberg Kaufman came to NIE in 1977 as a policy fellow of the Institute for Educational Leadership in Washington, D.C.

Weisberg Kaufman also spent five years as a project director on multi-national education studies with the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in Paris, France.

Weisberg Kaufman has a bachelor’s and master’s degree from the University of California at Los Angeles. She resides with her family in Farmington, CT.
