Kia F. Murrell

Kia Murrell is assistant counsel for the Connecticut Business & Industry Association (CBIA), the state's largest business organization with over 1 0,000 members. CBIA works to promote a healthy business climate, which encourages economic growth and job creation in the state.

Murrell represents business views on workers compensation and other labor and employment issues before the state legislature and administrative agencies.

She was appointed to Connecticut Department of Labor's Employment Security Advisory Board and is a member of the Governor's Task Force on Diversity Law and Affirmative Action in State Agencies.

Murrell moved to Connecticut from Pennsylvania, where she was deputy secretary of external affairs for the Mayor of Philadelphia. She also worked for the City of Philadelphia Law Department as an assistant city solicitor in both the tax, and health and human services divisions.

She received her J.D. degree from the Villanova University School of Law in Villanova, Penn., and has a B.A. degree in government from the University of Virginia.

Murrell is a member of the Connecticut and Pennsylvania Bar Associations, and is a certified arbitrator in the Pennsylvania Court of Common Pleas.

She lives in West Haven.
