LYDALL EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT, COO AND DIRECTOR
TO CHAIR CBIA BOARD


Christopher R. Skomorowski, executive vice president, COO and director of Lydall, Inc., headquartered in Manchester, Conn., was elected today as chairman of the Board of Directors of the Connecticut Business & Industry Association (CBIA). He will serve a one-year term, succeeding Michael Morris, president and CEO of Northeast Utilities, whose term concluded this month.

     Skomorowski joined the company in 1979 and subsequently held finance and marketing positions at both the world headquarters office and Lydall Westex, now known as the Lydall Thermal/Acoustical Group. He was named president of Westex in 1991, heading Lydall’s growing automotive thermal business as well as its medical filtration operation. He served as president and chief executive officer of Lydall, Inc. from 1998 to 2003. Lydall is a manufacturer of technologically advanced engineered materials for demanding specialty applications.

     Skomorowski is a trustee of The Hartford Courant Foundation and a member of the Board of Electors of the Wadsworth Atheneum, one of America's oldest and most respected public art museums. He is a certified public accountant, with a bachelor of science degree in business administration from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. He resides in Simsbury, Connecticut with his wife, Lisa, and daughter, Kelsey.

     CBIA’s board also elected, as vice chairs, John A. Klein, chairman, president and CEO, People’s Bank, Bridgeport, and Roger Joyce, vice president engineering, The Bilco Co., West Haven.

     People’s is a diversified financial services company providing commercial, consumer, insurance and investment services. Founded in 1842, it is the largest state-chartered bank in Connecticut, with assets of $12 billion, 154 branches, including 64 in Super Stop & Shop locations, and 230 ATMs. People’s subsidiaries offer brokerage services, asset management, equipment financing and leasing, and insurance services.

     Bilco was founded in 1926 by Joyce’s grandfather, George W. Lyons Sr., and continues today under family ownership and management. The company pioneered the development of steel basement doors, vault and sidewalk doors, and roof access scuttles and is considered today the world leader in its field. Headquartered in West Haven, Bilco employs 200 people in manufacturing facilities in Connecticut, Arkansas and New Mexico, and has a network of factory-trained representatives, dealers and distributors throughout the world.
