CBIA OFFERING CONNECTICUT BUSINESSES FREE DISASTER TRAINING

The Connecticut Business & Industry Association (CBIA), through a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), is offering small and midsize companies free training to help them develop disaster plans to respond to emergencies at their workplaces.

The events of 9/11 have highlighted the importance of developing and implementing emergency preparedness plans. The training program will assist companies in understanding their responsibilities when dealing with an emergency situation at their workplaces, and will increase the health and safety of workers in Connecticut. The program allows small and mid-sized businesses that may not have the necessary resources within their companies, to develop, adopt and implement emergency response plans.

The training has three phases: full day symposiums, follow-up workshops and on- site consulting. Phase one is a full day symposium to familiarize company officials with the necessary components needed for an emergency response plan (ERP), and explain why it is so important to have one.

CBIA will offer three full-day symposiums across the state:

  • Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004 at the Radisson Hotel & Conference Center in Cromwell
  • Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004 at the Mystic Marriott Hotel
  • Friday, Feb. 13, 2004, at the Trumbull Marriott.

Each session begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 4:15 p.m.

Phase two is an in-depth follow-up workshop to assist businesses in developing an actual draft ERP for their companies or update their existing plan. These workshops will be offered in March, April and May and are limited to 20 participants each. Registrations for the free follow-up workshops will begin at the symposiums.

Phase three will provide follow-up consulting services to all of the companies that have developed draft ERP’s and will be scheduled on an individual basis.

To register for the free disaster training sessions, please call Lisa Cliché at CBIA, 860-244-1977.

CBIA is Connecticut’s largest business organization, with 10,000 members.
