Peter M. Gioia, economist for the Connecticut Business & Industry Association (CBIA) will be among the keynote speakers at the ninth annual Real Estate Exchange “The State of the State” forum. Gioia will discuss global and national events impacting the economy and opportunities and challenges facing Connecticut businesses and commercial real estate markets. Gioia will also discuss recent survey results from CBIA members regarding work force related issues and how they impact key industries in the state. The forum will be held September 24, 2003 from 5:45 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at The Hartford Club, 46 Prospect Street, Hartford.

Besides Gioia, the program will feature an overview of the real estate markets by a broker, and two noted corporate leaders on how to attract and retain businesses in the Hartford region.

Gioia manages the research department of CBIA, the state's largest business organization with about 10,000 member companies, which provides in-depth economic and policy analyses and survey research assistance to CBIA member companies, public officials and the media. He tracks Connecticut's economy through the CBIA quarterly economic survey and the CBIA-Connecticut Association of Purchasing Management survey, and special-purpose surveys on such topics as manufacturing, training needs, information technology, credit availability, small business, business expansion, international trade and education.

Gioia is also on the board of directors of the New England Economic Project (NEEP), a member-supported, non-profit organization dedicated to providing objective economic analyses and forecasts.

Gioia holds a master's degree with distinction in public affairs from the University of Connecticut and a bachelor's degree in history and economics from Hobart College. Gioia was Connecticut Team Captain for USA*NAFTA. He is a past president and member of the Hartford Area Business Economists, a member of the National Association of Business Economists, and a board member of the MetroHartford Economic Growth Council.
