CBIA’s Northeast Energy Conference: Beyond the Blackout

Energy prices are rising again. The Department of Energy forecasts near double-digit increases this winter for natural gas and electric customers. CBIA has assembled some of the top experts in the region to discuss the changes taking place in Connecticut’s energy markets and how consumers and businesses can deal with the changes.

Friday, Nov. 7, 2003
The Rocky Hill Marriott
8:30 a.m. - Noon

Changes in the utility market include the Department of Public Utility Control setting new rates for the standard offer, power grid reorganizations and upgrades, national energy legislation and regional tariff issues. All of these changes will impact how much you pay for energy in the coming months.

Congress, the Department of Energy and state policy makers will all be looking with renewed urgency for lasting solutions for our state, regional and national energy problems. The panelists will discuss the political and economic challenges that threaten our energy markets and what they mean to consumers and businesses. Speakers include:

  • John B. Larson, U.S. representative;
  • Donald W. Downes, chairman, Department of Public Utility Control;
  • Michael G. Morris, chairman, president and CEO, Northeast Utilities;
  • David Bertagnolli, principal engineer, ISO-New England;
  • Tom Kiley, president, Northeast Gas Association;
  • Anthony J. Vallillo, president and COO, the United Illuminating Co.;
  • Dan Sosland, executive director, Environment Northeast; and
