Sept. 24, 2003 CBIA Receives Major Grant from U.S. Labor
Department
In total, OSHA awarded 67 organizations more than $11.2 million in Susan Harwood Training Grants. CBIA was the only Connecticut group chosen to receive funding. These grants will support classroom quality training programs. They include safety and health hazards education, including workplace violence and small-business safety systems. “This grant will expand the reach of CBIA’s training and education efforts, and will increase the health and safety of workers in Connecticut,” said Bonnie Stewart, CBIA’s vice president of Human Resources Services. “The events of 9/11 have highlighted the importance of developing and implementing emergency preparedness plans. The grant will allow CBIA to focus on training smaller companies that don’t have the resources to develop, adopt and implement emergency response programs.” Within the next few weeks, CBIA will begin recruiting businesses interested in the program. Conferences and training will begin early next year. CBIA provides an array of services to employers throughout Connecticut in all areas of human resource management, including occupational safety and health. It also runs numerous programs and workshops to keep members informed of regulatory and legislative requirements affecting their businesses. For a complete list of services, please visit cbia.com. CBIA is Connecticut’s largest business organization, with more
than 10,000 members.
