AI ENGINEERS PRESIDENT AND CEO ELECTED TO CBIA BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Islam is president and CEO of AI Engineers Inc., in Middletown. He is one of 16 new members elected to the CBIA board who will begin their terms Dec. 1. CBIA is the state’s largest business organization, with 10,000 member companies throughout Connecticut. The board of directors approves the organization’s plans, policies and strategies, and particularly focuses on ways to make Connecticut a better place to do business and create jobs. Islam founded AI Engineers Inc. as a sole proprietorship over 13 years ago. Today the 50-person firm operates from its own recently constructed corporate facility in Middletown, with a satellite office in New York City. Islam has 23 years of experience in successfully managing design, structure condition inspection, construction and contract administration for small to major highways, bridge, transportation, transit and buildings, facilities, utility and municipal projects. He manages as well as provides quality control of complex engineering design and construction projects. These projects include the conventional design-bid-build process as well as design-build contracts. His diversified background includes working for large general contracting firms and A/E firms as well as leading AI Engineers Inc. since its founding. He is a member of the Connecticut Minority Supplier Development Council and the Connecticut Department of Transportation task force for disadvantaged-minority-and-small-business-owned companies. He is also an American Society of Civil Engineers Fellow. Islam has a M.S. degree in civil engineering, from City College of New York, and a B.S. degree in civil engineering, from NED University in Karachi, Pakistan. He lives in Glastonbury. ###
