ADVEST PRESIDENT, CHAIRMAN AND CEO ELECTED TO CBIA BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Mullane is president, chairman and CEO of Advest Inc., in Hartford. He is one of 16 new members elected to the CBIA board who will begin their terms Dec. 1. CBIA is the state’s largest business organization, with 10,000 member companies throughout Connecticut. The board of directors approves the organization’s plans, policies and strategies, and particularly focuses on ways to make Connecticut a better place to do business and create jobs. Mullane was named president in 2003, and assumed the additional role of chief executive officer and chairman in July 2004. A 20-year veteran of the securities industry, Mullane joined Advest in 1991 as vice president for branch development. In 1992, he was named both branch manager of the Boston office and divisional manager for Advest's New England region. During his tenure, the Boston branch became Advest's largest and most profitable branch. In 1996, he was named to the Advest board of directors. Mullane later was named national sales manager in 1999, and president of Advest's private client group in 2000, assuming responsibility for leading all of the firm's retail division managers, broker recruitment and retention, development and education, branch administration, and retail technology areas. Mullane attended Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa., and majored in management science. He completed his B.S. at Charter Oak State College in New Britain, Conn. Mullane also earned a certificate for special studies in administration and management at Harvard University, and is a graduate of the Securities Industry Institute conducted at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. In 2003, Mullane was named one of the "50 Most Influential Irish Americans on Wall Street" by Irish America Magazine. He completed staff training at the Hurricane Island Outward Bound School and currently serves as a member of the corporation for the school. In addition, he is active in support of the United Way, the Boy Scouts of America, and many other charitable and community causes. Mullane lives in Killingworth with his wife, Claudia, children Jeremiah, Michael and Grace, and mother Gertrude. ###
