Immediate Release July 28, 2004 CBIA TEAMS UP WITH FAIRFIELD COUNTY CHAMBERS OF
COMMERCE
The conference will include top business leaders and economic experts who will discuss the strengths of the Fairfield County economy and where it is heading in the next decade. “Fairfield County is truly a powerhouse within the Connecticut economy,” said Peter Gioia, CBIA economist. “It’s only fitting that a county with such large corporations and national headquarters should be the location of an economic conference with specific attention to the issues of the people and businesses in the area.” “The Stamford, Greenwich and Greater Norwalk Chambers and the Bridgeport Regional Business Council are all very active in their communities and are all committed to taking action to help increase business confidence and encourage job-creating investments in our state that will strengthen our economic base and help create jobs,” said Gioia. Despite the improving economy, many Connecticut employers are very concerned about their ability to remain competitive and connected to the global economy. Issues including taxes, the growth of our future workforce and transportation are all vital to the region’s success. “As the economy continues to recover, we must work together, to build a solid foundation of success,” said John Condlin, president of the Stamford Chamber of Commerce. Edward Musante, Jr., president of the Greater Norwalk Chamber of Commerce added, “There’s still a lot to be done to improve the climate for business in the area, attract corporations and create jobs, but conditions are on the upswing.” Greenwich Chamber President, Mary Ann Morrison said, “Fairfield county continues to rely on several factors that have made it successful - a skilled and highly-educated workforce, a strong entrepreneurial spirit and a good location- along the New York border just to name a few. But now, we need to move ahead and develop new plans for success in the next 10 years and beyond.” “The conference will bring together top business leaders and economists who will share their visions, policies and strategies to make Fairfield County and Connecticut a better place to do business,” said Paul Timpanelli, president of the Bridgeport Regional Business Council. CBIA is Connecticut’s largest business organization, with 10,000 members. ### Media wishing to attend the event should contact Nancy Andrews, CBIA media relations manager, at 860-244-1957 or andrewsn@cbia.com. 350 Church
