CBIA RECEIVES $200,000 CONTRACT TO PROVIDE BUSINESS
SERVICES TO EMPLOYERS IN 37 TOWNS
Business Liaisons Will Provide Recruitment, Interviewing and
Training Services
The Connecticut Business & Industry Association (CBIA) has received
a $200,000 contract from Capital Workforce Partners (CWP) to provide business
services to employers in the 37 cities and towns CWP serves in north central
Connecticut.
CBIA has teamed up with the Greater Bristol and New Britain chambers of
commerce to provide business/employer services in partnership with the
Connecticut Department of Labor’s Connecticut Works Program, to
help meet the employment and training needs of regional businesses. The
program is funded by the federal Workforce Investment Act (WIA) through
the Connecticut Department of Labor. WIA seeks to meet the needs of both
employers and job seekers through workforce development programs and services
provided primarily by contracted partner organizations.
Through Connecticut Works One-Stop Career Centers, the program provides
multiple public and private employment and training services for job seekers
and employers. One-Stop centers across the state utilize a number of organizations,
collaborating to create a seamless delivery system by providing assistance
to employers in the area of recruitment, training, education and business
information.
Employers in the north central region of Connecticut can access job-related
information through employer liaisons who provide services to employers,
including up-to-date labor market information to aid in attracting and
retaining employees. Liaisons also:
- help analyze labor markets to develop a list of high-growth jobs;
- target employers in identified career clusters and emerging industries
in Connecticut who need highly skilled employees or specific training
programs to help keep them competitive;
- offer recruitment support to help businesses attract and maintain
top employees; and
- provide outreach services and programs to businesses requesting support
for dislocated workers.
Lauren Weisberg Kaufman, CBIA vice president of education and job training,
says the program will implement and coordinate an effective workforce
development system that creates economic and employment partnerships among
service providers, job seekers and employers. “It’s one-stop
for business owners who need access to services to obtain all the necessary
information needed to utilize the system and to find the skilled labor
necessary for their businesses to grow and expand. We expect to hear from
businesses that need assistance, services and programs to help them hire,
retain and improve the skills of their workforce and help keep their companies
competitive,” said Weisberg Kaufman.
The 37 towns of the north central region of Connecticut served by Connecticut
Works One-Stop are Andover, Avon, Berlin, Bloomfield, Bolton, Bristol,
Burlington, Canton, East Granby, East Hartford, East Windsor, Ellington,
Enfield, Farmington, Glastonbury, Granby, Hartford, Hebron, Marlborough,
New Britain, Newington, Plainville, Plymouth, Rocky Hill, Simsbury, Somers,
South Windsor, Southington, Stafford, Suffield, Tolland, Vernon, West
Hartford, Wethersfield, Windsor and Windsor Locks.
Connecticut Works is managed by Capital Workforce Partners in partnership
with the North Central One-Stop Consortium, which includes the Connecticut
Department of Labor (CTDOL), Community Renewal Team (CRT), Connecticut
Business and Industry Association (CBIA), Capitol Region Education Council
(CREC), north central community colleges (Asnuntuck, Capital, Manchester
and Tunxis), Human Resource Agency of New Britain (HRA), Hartford Housing
Authority, Catholic Family Services, Career T.E.A.M. and John D. Driscoll
United Labor Agency, the MetroHartford Alliance, and other organizations
