CBIA RECEIVES AWARD FOR CONNECTICUT STATE SCHOLARS PROGRAM

The Connecticut Business & Industry Association (CBIA) received a silver Connecticut Quality Improvement Award Innovation Prize, recognizing innovative excellence for its State Scholars Program.

The Connecticut State Scholars Program works hand-in-hand with local businesses to get students to take more-rigorous courses in high school in order to better prepare them to enter the workforce or college.

The award was presented to Dayl Walker, CBIA program director for school-based programs, at the 18 th Annual Conference on Quality and Innovation, held on Oct. 20 at the Water’s Edge Resort in Westbrook.

The award highlights CBIA’s commitment to Connecticut’s economic future. “We are pleased that Connecticut State Scholars has been recognized as an innovative program that provides education and workforce development to help high school students become more productive members of the community and workforce,” said Walker.

Studies by the U.S. Department of Education have shown that seven out of 10 students graduate from high school without completing the courses needed to succeed in college or in the workplace. But students who complete more-rigorous classes in high school are more successful in college and in the workplace than those who simply meet minimum graduation requirements.

The Connecticut State Scholars program is available to students in New Haven and Danbury public schools and Vinal Technical High School in Middletown.

The Connecticut Quality Improvement Award Partnership Inc. is the state’s leader for creating and recognizing performance excellence in Connecticut organizations.

CBIA is the state’s largest business organization, with 10,000 members.
