CONNECTICUT TEACHERS PARTICIPATE IN “CSI”- TYPE WORKSHOP
Lab work includes DNA analysis and forensics

Thursday, July 21
9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Center for Applied Genetics and Technology
University of Connecticut
Storrs, CT

Eighteen science teachers from across the state will participate in a forensics lab workshop at the Center for Applied Genetics and Technology at UConn. The program gives teachers practical lab experience to help them develop courses and lesson plans in genetic engineering for high school students interested in forensic science.

The teachers will analyze their own DNA by taking cheek swabs and will solve a crime as part of the lesson plan, which also includes forensic and DNA typing.

The program is funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation, administered by the Connecticut Business & Industry Association and a Mathematics and Science Partnership Grant from the Connecticut Department of Education, awarded to the Waterbury Public Schools.

Teachers participating in the program are from a number of high schools across the state including Waterbury, Glastonbury, Canton, Portland, Stratford, Seymour, Greenwich, Plainville and Milford.
CBIA is the state’s largest business organization, with 10,000 member companies.
