GERBER SCIENTIFIC PRESIDENT AND CEO ELECTED TO CBIA BOARD OF DIRECTORS
The Connecticut Business & Industry Association (CBIA) elected Marc T. Giles to a four-year term on its board of directors at its Oct. 26 Annual Meeting. Giles is president and CEO of Gerber Scientific Inc., in South Windsor, a leading international supplier of sophisticated automated manufacturing systems for sign making and specialty graphics, apparel and flexible materials, and ophthalmic lens processing. The company operates through four businesses: Gerber Scientific Products, Spandex Ltd., Gerber Technology and Gerber Coburn. CBIA is the state’s largest business organization, with 10,000 member companies throughout Connecticut. Giles is one of 13 new members elected to the CBIA board who will begin their terms Dec. 1. The board of directors approves the organization’s plans, policies and strategies, and particularly focuses on ways to make Connecticut a better place to do business and create jobs. Giles joined Gerber Technology Inc., as president, in December 2000, and in November 2001 was appointed president and CEO of Gerber Scientific Inc. Prior to joining Gerber, he spent 12 years with FMC Corp. in Chicago, Ill., a producer of machinery and chemicals for industry and agriculture, and 10 years with Norton Co. in Worcester, Mass. In addition to being a member of Gerber Scientific’s board of directors, Giles also serves on the board of directors of the Charter Oak Chapter of the American Red Cross, and is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors. Giles is a graduate of Union College, Schenectady, New York. He lives in Avon.
