ING GROUP PRESIDENT ELECTED TO CBIA BOARD OF DIRECTORS
The Connecticut Business & Industry Association (CBIA) elected Kathleen A. Murphy to a four-year term on its board of directors at its Oct. 26 Annual Meeting. Murphy is group president of ING’s U.S. worksite and institutional financial services in Hartford. She is one of 13 new members elected to the CBIA board who will begin their terms Dec. 1. CBIA is the state’s largest business organization, with 10,000 member companies throughout Connecticut. The board of directors approves the organization’s plans, policies and strategies, and particularly focuses on ways to make Connecticut a better place to do business and create jobs. Previously, she was general counsel and chief administrative officer for ING U.S. Financial Services. She also served as senior adviser to the U.S. Financial Services CEO. Murphy joined ING in 2000, after ING’s acquisition of Aetna Financial Services. Prior to the acquisition, she served as general counsel and chief compliance officer of Aetna Financial Services. She joined Aetna in 1985, where she held a variety of positions. Murphy has served on a variety of regulatory, industry and business commissions and task forces across the country. She currently serves as a national trustee of the Boys & Girls Club of America. She serves on the board of directors of the UConn Foundation Board, the National Conference for Civil Justice in the Northeast, the MetroHartford Alliance and the White House Commission on Aging. She has served as past chairperson of the Connecticut Children’s Trust Fund and is a past board member of the Governor’s Prevention Partnership Program, Wheeler Clinic and the American Benefits Council. Murphy has also been recognized by Who’s Who of Professional Women. Murphy earned a J.D. degree with highest honors from the University of Connecticut, and graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in both economics and political science from Fairfield University. She lives in South Glastonbury with her husband and son. ###
