HEALTH NET OF THE NORTHEAST PRESIDENT ELECTED TO CBIA BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The Connecticut Business & Industry Association (CBIA) elected Steven H. Nelson to a four-year term on its board of directors at its Oct. 26 Annual Meeting.

Nelson is president of Health Net of the Northeast Inc., in Shelton, a subsidiary of Health Net Inc. He is one of 13 new members elected to the CBIA board who will begin their terms Dec. 1.

CBIA is the state’s largest business organization, with 10,000 member companies throughout Connecticut. The board of directors approves the organization’s plans, policies and strategies, and particularly focuses on ways to make Connecticut a better place to do business and create jobs.

Nelson was appointed president in January 2005. In June 2004, he assumed the role of chief operating officer for the Eastern Region of Health Net Inc. Prior to this, he led the national senior products division, which includes Health Net's Medicare programs.

Before joining Health Net in 2003, he was COO and vice president of network management of United Health Care’s Arizona market. Prior to that, he spent 10 years with the Henry Ford Health System.

Nelson holds dual master’s degrees from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor – one in health services administration and another in business administration – and a B.A. in biology from Portland State University. He lives in Milford.
