CITIZENS BANK CHAIRMAN, PRESIDENT AND CEO ELECTED TO CBIA BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The Connecticut Business & Industry Association (CBIA) elected Richard M. Barry to a four-year term on its board of directors at its Oct. 25 Annual Meeting. 

Barry is chairman, president and CEO of Citizens Bank of Connecticut. He is one of 14 new members elected to the CBIA board, who will begin their terms Dec. 1.

CBIA is the state’s largest business organization, with 10,000 member companies throughout Connecticut. The board of directors approves the organization’s plans, policies and strategies, and particularly focuses on ways to make Connecticut a better place to do business and create jobs.

Barry oversees the day-to-day operations of Citizens’ retail and commercial business in Connecticut.  He is responsible for a $5 billion banking enterprise, including 49 branches, more than 50 ATMs, a $1 billion commercial loan portfolio and a staff of more than 400. 

He joined Citizens in 1995 as a senior vice president.  He was promoted to executive vice president in November 2004, and to president and CEO in January 2005.

Barry is a graduate of Bentley College in Waltham, Mass. and received his M.B.A. from Babson College in Wellesley, Mass.

He lives in Avon with his wife, Deborah, and their two daughters.
