Executives to meet with legislators to discuss issues important to their businesses and the state's economy

Wednesday, March 5, 2008
8 a.m. – noon
Legislative Office Building

Room 2 C
Hartford, CT

Hundreds of Connecticut business owners and executives from across the state will visit the state Capitol on March 5, for Connecticut Business Day 2008, to discuss the most important issues facing Connecticut businesses and the state economy. Those issues include:

  • Making business costs and taxes more competitive

  • Restoring excellence to public education

  • Enhancing the skills of our workforce

  • Creating a dependable, multimodal transportation infrastructure

Governor M. Jodi Rell will address the business leaders at 8:30 a.m. The governor is expected to discuss her priorities and vision for the state and her call for legislators to use fiscal caution and restraint this session, in the face of the nation's economic slowdown.

At 9:15 a.m., a panel of legislative leaders will discuss their proposals for this legislative session.

  • Senate President Pro Tem Donald Williams (invited)

  • Senate Republican leader John McKinney

  • House Speaker James Amann

  • House Republican leader Larry Cafero

Beginning at 10:30 a.m. executives will meet with state legislators from their towns to discuss how various tax plans, labor issues and other proposals would affect their individual companies, including impacts on business investments and employment levels.

Connecticut Business Day is co-sponsored by the Connecticut Business & Industry Association (CBIA) and the Connecticut Association of Chambers of Commerce Executives (CACCE), a statewide organization of 61 chamber executives.

CBIA is the state's largest business organization, with 10,000 members.
