Phases of Lean Sigma Implementation

Implementation of the Lean Sigma philosophy has three distinct phases:

  • Phase 1 - Getting Started - assessed current state, initial alignment, core skills, small successes
  • Phase 2 - Achieving Success – greater alignment, larger successes, new skills, broader involvement
  • Phase 3 - Becoming Self-sustaining – advanced skills, near-total involvement, continual improvement

There are more than 200 distinct tools and techniques in the Lean Sigma ‘toolbox’. Use of specific tools is dependent on phase and situation. While there are too many to list, a small sample by phase of implementation follows:

Phase I:
Getting Started

Phase II:
Achieving Success

Phase III:
Becoming Self-sustaining
